Education & Experience

My training includes a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Biola University in California, as well as additional pedagogy training from the Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music. In addition to solo piano performance, I have performed with chamber ensembles, accompanied instrumental and vocal soloists, and sung professionally in choral groups. I also play keyboard with several Front Range contra dance bands. I am an active member of the Fort Collins Music Teachers Association, and have been on the board. As an FCMTA member, my students have access to many fun and challenging events throughout the year.

What to Expect in Lessons:

In my lessons, I emphasize the importance of basic sight reading and ear training abilities, as well as musicianship skills and expressive artistry. I bring students a wide variety of musical styles, and encourage them in developing their own musical interests, whether in classical, jazz or pop/rock. For most students I start with the Faber Piano Adventures method books, supplemented by additional repertoire, theory or specific genre books where appropriate. A variety of additional materials including piano games may also be included. For more serious students, I work with the Royal Conservatory of Music materials and assessment program. All students are required to practice regularly, and parental support of this is essential. Regardless of age, level or ability, I believe that learning piano should be an enjoyable experience.
